George Washington (1732-1799) was an American military leader and statesman who played a pivotal role in the founding of the United States. Born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, he was raised in a plantation family. Washington began his career as a surveyor before joining the Virginia militia during the French and Indian War.

His leadership qualities emerged during this conflict, setting the stage for his later role in the American Revolution. He was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army in 1775 and led the colonies to victory against British forces. Washington’s strategic victories, including the surprise attack at Trenton in 1776, bolstered morale and supported the American cause.

After the war, Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention in 1787, where he played a key role in drafting the U.S. Constitution. Elected as the first President of the United States in 1789, he served two terms, focusing on establishing a strong federal government and promoting national unity.

Upon retiring in 1797, Washington returned to Mount Vernon, his Virginia estate. He passed away on December 14, 1799. Washington is often referred to as the “Father of His Country” for his integral role in shaping the nation and setting precedents for future leaders.
